SD Masehi Rua, Hobawawi Village

West Sumba

East Nusa Tenggara

Month Opened:
28 November 2019

At the end of 2019, the Taman Baca Inovator (TBI) Foundation inaugurated 3 new TBI libraries in Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara. One of the libraries is Marie Ampere TBI library. Located in SD Masehi Rua, Hobawawi Village, Wanokaka District, the TBI library is the 35th library affiliated with the Taman Baca Inovator Foundation. The TBI library that uses the name of the inventor of the electromagnetic law was officially opened on November 28, 2019, involving the Masehi Rua elementary school and Happy Hearts Indonesia as partner communities in managing TBI in the Sumba region.

It takes a fairly long journey to reach TBI Marie Ampere from Jakarta. Tambolaka Airport, Southwest Sumba, is the first point that must be reached, followed by a road trip to West Sumba which takes approximately 2-3 hours of driving. It is a long trip because the travel is between two different Regencies, namely from Southwest Sumba Regency to West Sumba Regency. Hobawawi Village is located not far from Rua Beach, which is one of the local tourism destinations for the people of West Sumba and its surrounding areas.

Hobawawi village itself is an exotic village, located close to Rua beach. Most people in Hobawawi village spend their time working as fishermen, or processing seafood, and some work as farmers. When most of the adults are working at the sea, the children of Hobawawi Village spend their time at SD Masehi Rua elementary school. The children at SD Muanghi Rua are very active and curious children. This can be seen by their behavior when they met with the core TBI team. At that time the children welcomed the arrival of the core team with traditional dances and English songs. In addition, when TBI Marie Ampere was opened the children immediately flocked, looking for books to read. It was a memorable experience when I saw the cheerfulness of the children of SD Masehi Rua, Hobawawi Village. With the existence of TBI Marie Ampere library in Hobawawi Village, we hope that in general the TBI library can enliven the education in Hobawawi Village, as our goal is to improve education by establishing libraries in various regions in Indonesia.
