The holy month of Ramadan is full of blessings for all Muslims around the world. Apart from training the physical body with fasting, people are also in touch with their spiritual side during the month. For many people, the fasting month is considered as the opportunity to reconnect with other people, often through a breakfasting event or iftar. Taman Baca Inovator (TBI) also utilized this moment for an iftar with Yayasan Dinamika Indonesia, involving its elementary and pre-school teachers and staffs. This is an important event, considering that the TBI library in Bantargebang, which has been established for almost one year, has been working closely with Yayasan Dinamika Indonesia and the event was expected to be a medium to gather inputs and responses from the stakeholder to help TBI improve for the better.
The iftar was held informally with a short khutbah, game, and discussion. The khutbah was about the pleasure of fasting month and was conveyed by one of the teachers while other participants listened intently. After the khutbah, the event continued with a game that required high concentration, where everyone played enthusiastically. Lastly, the event was closed with a discussion, where the group was divided into five groups that consisted of four teachers. Each group explained what impact TBI has brought through pictures which would be presented later. Based on the discussion we found that: (1) TBI programs could collaborate and support school’s programs; (2) TBI encourages the children to have better achievement since the students’ scores are progressing; (3) TBI collaborates very well with schools in improving the children’s capability; (4) TBI brings a light of knowledge to the children; (5) Books provided by TBI are very useful in imparting knowledge to the children and teachers.
In this occasion, the elementary school principal also mentioned his high appreciation for TBI and hoped that TBI would continue collaborating with the school, as he looked forward to the next programs from TBI. At the same time, the pre-school principal expected to have a more direct collaboration with TBI considering that the pre-school is not located in the same location as the elementary school. He hoped that the pre-school could borrow some of TBI books to be put at his school to help the young children flourish.
TBI’s main goal is to increase the reading interest of the children, and building a good relationship with the teachers is going to help TBI reach its objective. The good relationship will cause the teachers to encourage children to visit TBI and join the learning activities. With the help of Yayasan Dinamika to drive literacy in Bantargebang, Bekasi, we hope that TBI Jendela Dunia Bekasi could keep improving and be more independent in the future. (Albret Sembiring)
