On 4 October 2017, Taman Baca Inovator (TBI) Jendela Dunia was officially launched in SD Dinamika Ciketing Udik, a local elementary school in Bantar Gebang, Bekasi. The school has more than four hundred students and only seventeen teachers, and it is very close to the largest landfill site in Indonesia. The garbage has been a part of the children’s life, and half of the school’s students moonlight as waste pickers to help their parents.
TBI Jendela Dunia (literally means window to the world) brings hope for the future to the local community. The launching was not only attended by the school’s teachers and students, but also the students’ parents and the local community. Nazaruddin, the Principal of SD Dinamika, is also very supportive of this initiative.
The books provided are well-liked by children and is of high quality. The books are also very useful especially for children in the golden age of childhood. Through its books and presence in the marginal area, TBI hopes to be the bridge for the community to a better future.
